Our Hotel has been present for over 20 years.
Decades ago, a young boy herded his family’s animals across the sprawling Kieni fields. The fields fed his body and soul. He would spend hours among tweeting birds and whistling thorns. For the boy’s young mind, those long hours would be a sanctuary and a canvas on which to imagine and begin to paint his then and his thereafter.
Each evening, when his animals, now full, led him home, his mind would be ablaze with tales of adventure and gifts of nature. Those childhood experiences inspired his love for stories, and he would go on to become a student of journalism and literature, where he continued to dream and tell stories.
As a grown man, after sojourns across the world, he would return to those fields often, to gaze at the mountain yonder, to relish the birdsong and to find inspiration for storytelling. In those fields, he would go on to build a home, a space for storytelling. Those fields that ignited his passion for nature and fabulous tales he now shares with the world.
The dream is now a getaway for other writers, creatives of all kinds, and other citizens of the world, who need a quiet retreat or a place to lose and find themselves. Now erected in an orchard of 2000 fruit trees – apples and avocado – the space includes a superb glamping experience: tents, cottages and a restaurant serving the freshest vegetables and the best cuts of meat sourced from the Getaway’s farm.
